JUst yesterday one very good man showed me a new smashing band from west coast, called Puro Instinct. I predict them a long live in my iPod which is - as the matter of fact - an uncommon thing for my always-moving-changing world. Young, Promising, Talented Kaplan sisters - Skylar (16) and Piper (23) - are playing hazed, dreamy, melodic, light and moving music that is worth your attention if you're into dream-pop and shoegaze aesthetics.

So long ago since i last visited any live gigs. So long ago since i last wrote an article for my blog. Yes, life on Mars 've been kinda difficult-thing since my exams in university has started. I must admit i've been a reckless girl. Should have prepared better. But the summer has started and my head is somewhere higher than the clouds. Hope you, guys, haven't thought that i've completely left the Milky-Way galaxy. No, i'm still here with you. Sometimes i even become social.:)
This time i wanted to tell you about my Beady Eye live gig experience. If you are interested..and even if' you're not. Here we are. I wasn't even suspecting of them to come here, but a friend of mine told me so i've decided to go. I've heard that Liam is a bad boy, just wanted to assure myself. Never was a big Oasis fan, but at least i used to hear all of their albums, some of them even more than once. They really were the spitit of 90's. And i do really love the 90's, espesially the music. Fantastic! But Oasis've never been touring even close to these places.

All the Pictures used in this article are taken by a great photographer from Saint-Petersburg - Maria Mitrofanova. Hope she don't mind me using her shoots.

After another big squabble with Liam, Noel has left the band. And just before he left he released a solo album " The Dreams We Have as Children (Live for Teenage Cancer Trust)" on March 2009 which happened to be the beggining of the end. Later that year the band fell apart. And brothers begun to move in their own different ways. Liam formed a band called "Beady Eye" with other musicians from Oasis. Guys released their debut album "Different Gear, Still Speeding" in February 2011, and it sounds even more retrospective than you could imagine, but still great though and so rock'n'roll.
Back to the main story..Beady Eye finally came to Saint-Petersburg city. Stylish and tough they were seen at LED airport on 2 June 2011. Watch it here!

Британская рок-группа Beady Eye, по сути являющаяся последним составом легендарных Oasis, только без Ноэля Галлахера, прилетела в Петербург с концертом.

No matter they came beforehand, guys were late for the show, luckily for me. Cause i was also late. But when they started - it was a damn hurricane! In a good meaning of course! Their live sound is amazing, even better than what you hear on the record. So powerfull. Makes you wanna jump from the first chords. What could make Liam dance - i don't know - maybe if only England took the Football World Cup last year. But that definitely would not be a stage event, i can guarantee. On stage he's brutal and do not talk a lot.
The public was great. I think some guys were waiting for this moment to come for their entire lives so they were very well prepared. Likely, neither Liam nor the other band members did not expect such an effort.

I seem to watch it once..Also i remember that i liked the film though it caused quite unexplainable feelings. Strangely enough, but details of the plot has drown in the ocean of my recollection. Maybe my mind was hazed..a little on that glorious morning. Does it really matter?
Anyways, what I wanted to tell you, my dear readers, is that you better watch it yourself. And you are pretty lucky cause it's going to be released on Blu-Ray on April 4th. In a greater quality! Mmm, i think now i'm sure about one of the top-positions in my 2011 Birthday wish-list (murmuring).

	Behind the scenes on David Bowie's The Man Who Fell To Earth A digitally restored version of the classic sci-fi film The Man Who Fell To Earth, starring David Bowie, is released on blu-ray for the first time on April 4. To mark the occasion we're taking an exclusive look behind the scenes on the set.
	The film was based on a 1963 novel of the same name by Walter Tevis, who also wrote The Hustler. The plot concerns an alien who crash lands on earth, seeking to get water back to his planet which is in the throes of a severe drought. Here's a shot of Bowie in hair and make up for the film.
	It was Bowie’s first film role. Director Nic Roeg realised Bowie was perfect for the lead role when he happened to catch the singer’s edgy appearance in tour documentary Cracked Actor. Here’s a shot of a Bowie with the clapperboard from the set.
	Roeg praised Bowie in an interview with Creem saying: "I think a lot of rock stars think they can just transfer the art of their personality to film. David is quite an exception to the rule". Here’s Bowie with Roeg and co-star Candy Clark.
	Filming took place in the latter half of 1975. In between shooting Bowie read, wrote short stories and practiced filming on a 16mm newsreel camera he was given by Roeg. Here’s a shot of Bowie and Larry Sanders Show co-star Rip Thorn being given direction from Roeg.
	Bowie also wrote some songs which were intended for the film soundtrack. One of these tracks was 'Subterraneans' which ended up on 'Low'. Roeg decided against using Bowie songs for the film, instead opting to go with Stomu Yamashta’s score. Here’s a shot of Bowie reading a biography of Buster Keaton, in preparation for a planned biopic.
	Bowie’s sessions for the soundtrack took place in late '75, following the recording of 'Station To Station'. Speaking in 2007, arranger Paul Buckmaster, who was involved in the sessions, said he didn’t think the music produced was "really what Roeg was looking for". In '77 Bowie sent a copy of 'Low' to Roeg with a note attached which said: 'This is what I wanted to do for the film'.
	In an on-set interview with Creem Bowie said: "Working with Nic is nice because we get on well, we understand one another. There’s a marvelous chemistry between us. He’s very sensitive to everything that’s going on. He’s brilliant." Here’s a shot of Roeg, Bowie and son Duncan Jones.
	Filming did not go smoothly. Cameras were jammed for no reason, rowdy Hell’s Angels interrupted filming of a scene on an old Aztec burial ground and Bowie was ill for two days after drinking contaminated milk. Here’s Bowie in full 'alien' costume.
	Jim Lovell, the Spacecraft Commander of the dramatic Apollo 13 flight, made an appearance in the film as himself. In one scene he congratulates Bowie’s character. Here’s shot of Lovell with Bowie on-set.
	American Graffiti actress Candy Clark played the cheerfully coarse chambermaid Mary-Lou. Clark, who was dating Roeg at the time, is pictured here on set with Bowie.
	In 1999, Roeg said: "With The Man Who Fell To Earth I wanted to get rid of any sense of time, because it's surprising how often we mention it in our lives." Here he is with Bowie and Candy Clark.

Not a long ago my good acquaintance and young fashion designer from Saint-Petersburg Kate Why-Not sent me that adorable new wideo with Kate Moss. What can i say...Does she ever age?! Don't think so..I can feel that her spirit is Forever Young (!!!). And she still looks incredible..Blonde, Brunette, whatever! Short, Long Haired..No matter! Maybe she is not a beauty idol, but for me she always was a human goddess in fashion. Rewinding my memory..to my 13th birthday..back then i wished to be like her.
Now Kate is 37 years old (born 16 January 1974) but she still looks great, and she's still a total blam-blam. This new photosession proves it one more time. Kate is a master of transformations.

This post wasn't supposed to happen if I haven't found this wonderful artist in a DrollGirl blog. Marnie Weber and her art works totally captured my mind. This is what i call LOVE FROM THE FIRST SIGHT. Dark, gloomy, mysterious, macabre, radiant pieces of art. You can think on their meaning, you can just enjoy them.
I've never heard of this contemporary artist before. And i must have missed something special. Marnie Weber (born 1959) lives and works in LA. Her work includes photography, collage, sculpture, costume, installations, film, video, performances and music. She performed and recorded with such bands as "The Party Boys" (as a bass player) and "The Perfect Me". Marnie released two solo albums, Woman with Bass, 1994 and Cry for Happy, 1996, both recorded as "Marnie". Her work is also featured on the cover of the 1998 Sonic Youth album "A Thousand Leaves".

SPECIAL INFORMATION:

Much of Weber's visual art revolves around a recurring cast of characters. An animal often found in her work is the bear, which is linked to the Greek goddess Artemis. These characters, among others, are placed in "vividly colorful environment[s]",ornate, Empire style interiors or dark, dense, eerie landscapes. Her work most often focuses on the adventures of women, which sometimes take the form of half-human, half-animal hybrids with bodies cut from pornographic magazines, and other times, pale-faced, folksy ghosts known as "Spirit Girls"

The Spirit Girls is the name of Marnie Weber's alt-rock musical group and also refers to a group of characters that are found in her art. "[They] are the specters of five adolescents, killed in their prime, who come back to the real world to 'express things they weren't able to express' while they were alive."

But also she was a person..a person who i've never knew, but a person i'd like to know. I think she was a kind of teacher for a few generations of girls and women. Today she passed away. Elizatheth Taylor. I wish she'll have a new glorious life in another world. RIP Liz (February 27, 1932 – March 23, 2011).

Fragility of Things...

Last night i could't sleep. My heart was dancing magic beats despite my will. I took two pills to calm down. But that strange feeling didn't want to escape. My eyes were red and dry. When i felt on my bed in the morning..nightmares were following me. And later i heard the news..about a huge earthquake in Japan. I always turn everything off when i hear something that tragic. I guess, many people do the same. Our world, where we live is so fragile, even sometimes it seem powerfull. And when i look from far above when i'm walking in the clouds of my dreams i see people changing..i'm watching them opening their eyes. It's hard to imagine WHAT is going on THERE from our cosy appartments. But i feel the pain. Like the part of me is dying and i'm sitting and watching it and there is nothing i could do.
I think we should do our best to show much love to THIS PLANET and all humanity..so frail. And do our best to help the suffering. Even if we are not there.

It's not a secret that Bowie has always been the great source of my inspirations. I tell you even more - he's the one i wore on my self-styled t-shirt though i never wore musicians on my clothes, i'm fine with them playing out of my record player. One more example of person/artist who's perfect at anytime. My parents were listening to his music, some younger musician were inspired by Bowie and now so am i. There is no time between us, really. That's how i'm loosing my writing skills..since i've passed my examinations at the university this February i had almost two weeks for myself..just to horse around, see friends, do some little things i never really have time for, get back to writing lyrics, listen to all those music i've downloaded and many other pleasant things. My mind has cleared up a bit. Now it's time to look for a job..haha until next June (when i'll be passing my exams again). Wow, i wasn't supposed to say all that..I just wanted to show you guys some pictures i've took as a photographer and make-up artist with the help of my friend Uliana (who had her first experience as a model) while we were hanging around at my appartment cause it was so damn cold outside. Don't be too strict in judjing our professional skills - we're not magicians, we're only studying!)

This is my friend Uliana, who've been a good model for me. Ice & Fire - all in one! In life she loves rock music, but for first hours of shooting she patiently played a role of good girl even she never felt like beeing one..)

Luckily for us, i've already had in mind another role for Uliana - something between Keith Richrds, Janis Joplin and maybe someone like Courtney. So the main thing here was a good inspiring playlist..that provided us with the right atmosphere. Talking about the details, it's pretty easy to recreate an image of rockstar if you own a couple guitars, leather jackets, flares or skinny jeans, lipsticks and black eyeliners...and of course..the spirit of rock'n'roll boiling in your veins!

i believe everybody knows how to make a hairstyle a-la "i've just got out of my bed".., don't you? There are many different methods, indeed. If anyone interested in mine, see, it's one of the easiest. For a more subdued morning look, comb your hair wax or gel through the top layers of your hair and then continuously lift these layers up and out until they look separated, full and messy. Apply hairspray to keep the layers from going flat. For a wilder look, comb the product through your hair with your head and hair down toward the ground. Grab chunks of hair with your hands and tousle them by swirling each chunk around in circles. Let go, lift your head and apply hairspray. These styles work best with naturally drying hair. However, if you're going to use a hairdryer, hold one hand flat against your hair and continuously tousle and swirl it as you dry, so that it does not dry straight or in one direction.

Twenty Six between life & death: Gia Marie Carangi

Some stories falls on us from the sky..I mean it's like you had to know something about someone. In the end of december 2010 i was walking around the supermarket when i surprisingly took a new issue of magazine "*****" and the article that opened immediately was about Gia Carangi, a supermodel of late 70s and early 80s. I heaven't read that article back then, but her name permanently stuck in my mind. Later, when i was working on "Beauty over Ages" series of posts for my blog i heard that name again - Gia Marie Carangi. But this time i got to know her story better. She was one of those beautiful & famous girls that died at the age of 26..She was the 3rd, if i'm not mistaken. This awful tendency has started with gorgeous hollywood bombshell of 30's - Jean Harlow who died of renal failure, the next victim of sudden death was 60s actress and model, a wife of Roman Polanski - Sharon Tate, who was killed by followers of Charles Manson. I don't know why, but this trilogy seems so strange...If maybe you (my dear reader) know more on this theme - i hope you can share your knowledges.
Now back to Gia Marie Carangi..as she completely captured me with her "singularity in fashion" and her very very sad story. Everybody knew this uncommon girl as Gia when she breaked into the world of high-fashion as a hurricane at the age of 17. Looking like a tomboy with a knife in her pocket, she came to Wilhelmina Cooper model agency and become a number one model in the end of 70s. Everybody wanted her on the cover on their magazines. But fame wasn't a number one goal for Gia, she was looking for more..she was looking for someone who'll love her for who she is, she was looking for understanding. But even her beauty, talent and deep inner world never brought her happyness. Problems in family, perhaps, made her too sensitive for this cruel world. Loss of her close friend Wilhemina Cooper also was a big shock for Gia, that likely pulled her to the edge..and falling into the abyss was her affection to heroin, that ended up with her death at the age of 26. She was the first famous woman in U.S.A. to die of AIDS.
Knowing that she is to die soon, Gia wrote in her diary: "Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."
And no doubt she was a very talented person who could have had much more brighter future. She wanted to learn photography and have kids, but in the end she said: "I think God has a plan for me, but I don`t think it`s in this life."..

*She was born in Philadelphia on 29 January, 1960.
*She had italian bloods in her veins from her father & irish and welsh from her mother.
*Gia was known to be a bisexual.
*Carangi was a regular at Studio 54 and the Mudd Club. She usually used cocaine in clubs, but later began to develop a heroin addiction.
* Gia was romanticly linked to her make-up assistant Sandy Linter.
*Carangi did her first major shoot with top fashion photographer Chris von Wangenheim.
*Gia's body measurements were: (US) 34-24-35/(EU) 86.5-61-89; height 5'7" (170 cm).
* Cindy Crawford, who also appeared on the covers of fashion publications during her time, was later referred to as "Baby Gia" due to her resemblance to Carangi.

Phylosophy of Life

Today..and 48 hours before was a hard time for me as i was widening the bounds of my thought. To be more precise i was preparing myself for phylosophy examination. Unluckily, i've missed one lecture by reason of my malady. That wasn't a good excuse for phylosophy professor so i had to read one extra book to pass that examination. By that moment i've already read Plato's " Apology of Socrates", "Theaetetus" and " Phaedrus"; Immanuel Kant "Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment?"; russian phylosopher A.V. Ahutin..But professor insisted on reading one more book (especially for me, who missed one of his lectures) - the book of russian professor of phylosophy and philology - V.V. Bibihin "The Language of Phylosophy" which is not less than 400 pages of pure phylosophic thought. I had to days to read it. And you know, i've read it. Whithout sleeping. It was really difficult for unprepared reader, but though very interesting. In the process i got that it's peerless pleasure to understand in yourself the essence of things. I'm really into phylosophy now. And it was so notibly nice when he said that i am "gifted student".
Unfortunately this gifted student has to pass exam on russian literature (end of 19th century) tomorrow, having no time to prepare!!! Ohhh, God, please give me a chance!

Long long ago i've grasped that fashion starts on the edge of functionality. High fashion. Images that passed through the inner world of the designer are now embodied in his models. I have a long lasting love-affair with a song. The song is called "A song to the siren" performed by This Mortal Coil. It was a long long time ago when i was 11 year-old kid, collecting records and interesting films, that were phohibited to me by my parents. And one day i went to that market near my appartments and bought Lynch's "Lost Highway" (though it was a bit heavy for my mind back then..). While watching the film it was like "Bang" and i've heard the song, i was hypnotized by that voice. I've remembered each word. I went to the store again to buy a soundtrack. But i didn't found the song on the official OST. And i got very very sad cause i even didn't know the name of the band or anything that could help me in finding it. At the same time i was lurning to play guitar with an amazing teacher. Once he brought me a casette with Cocteau Twins "Blue Bell Know" and "Four Calendar Cafe" on it. I fell in love with the band. At that time i had no internet in here. And it was impossible to buy and download music with i-net. 7 years later. I got to the Cd store to buy some records and found a Mp3 Cd of Cocteau Twins (the bonus was This Mortal Coil's album). I was increadibly happy to listen to their other albums. And you know what when i've heard that song again i almost felt unconscious. That's how i finally found it.)))

Later i've decided to translate it into russian, for people who maybe can't understand the original language..here it is..

I guess it's my turn to reveal a few little things.. as one of my favourite bloggers Ode To Awe tagged me to write seven things about myself..7 things, 7 things..i got used to keep my cards closed from the eyes..wearing the vail of mystery, but i feel like breaking this tradition for once!

1. When i was a kid i used to live in Los-Angeles, Ca with my family and i remember it as one of the happiest times in my life.

2. When i was five years old i got lost in airport of Paris. It was near Christmas Eve and i met Santa Claus there, he tried to soothe me and gifted me a yo-yo.

3. Back in the days when i was a little girl many people called me "baby Claudia" for my resemblance with Claudia Schiffer, foretelling me a carrer of model. But i grew up medium height and curvier than models should be.

4. I've always been a kinda frank and spur-of-the-moment type of person. So coming up to strangers and asking them "who's your favourite singer, etc" wasn't such a big deal for me. Btw, i always used to answer "..and mine is Michael Jackson". That was long long time ago.

5. As a teenager i was deeply in love with Marilyn Manson's music videos and his music. The was the reason #1 of arguing with my parents.

6. In school i was a rowdy and sometimes acted like a guy, i used to do lots of skateboarding back then. But somehow i've transformated into a very feminine lady, who's in love with dresses and high heels.

7. When choosing my further high education in university i thought beeing a journalist would help me in music. That's the number one reason why i'm studying for a journalist now. But now i have many other reasons..)

Beauty Through the Decades: 90's

That's how, step by step, we've come up to 90's. The decade of various beauty standarts that were incredibly diverse and constantly changing. I may be wrong, but i think that this decade was a certain transition moment when fashion models became as popular as famous actress and singers and deservedly concurred prefix "super-". You may not know the name of Gia Carangi (though she was one of the first supermodels), but you definitely heard of Cindy Crawford, Claudia Schiffer, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington and Kate Moss. Breaking into the highest league of models Kate Moss brought with herself a standard of extreme thinness, sometimes referred to as "heroin chic" from the strung-out, emaciated appearance of the face and body. In my opininon that looks great, but not on everybody. And that "androgyny" or "unisex" trend grew into the deepest layers of fashion's mind. So now in 2011 woman in fashion hardly can afford "loosening the belts", except Crystal Renn of course (& other "+" size models). In the early 90's Grunge was extremly popular not only in music, but also in fashion and lifestyle. Courtney Love can proove that!) Those who weren't on grunge, were on rave, rap, pop-punk, brit rock or anything else that was popular back then. Tongue, eyebrow and nose piercings (for both men and women) also came into vogue in the '90s and even crossed into the "mainstream" of youth culture. And for sure most of the teenage girls wanted to look like one of the "Spice Girls". Well, let's look over those, who were on the peak!)

Beauty Through the Decades: 80's

Moving closer and closer to what we call "modern", we can't pass through a decade of 80s, that has given us...well..lots of interesting culture stuff. When thinking of 80's the first few things that came on my mind was Hip-Hop, Graffiti, Madonna, Dami Moore, New Wave..Haha, i guess that was all. But i have a good excuse - i was born in the end of 80s..i was too little to understand anything that happens around me and that was Soviet Union.., so anyway!:) So first i've asked my Mom what she remembers about the decade. She was also very young at that time, but her eternal love to fashion helped me to figure things out and of course internet..And i've made a conclusion that 80's was a jump over the gap to craziness in fashion and culture, but this craziness was so artsy that still inspires our hearts and minds.
Talking about music, the decade began with anti-disco backlash in US and 80s music would be characterized by the wide spread synthesizers and keyboards. The main tendencies in music were New Romantics, New Wave, Synth Pop Glam Metal, Heavy Metal, Hard Rock and Hip-Hop. Madonna was regarded as the most groundbreaking female artist of decade, she was noted for her many fashion incarcations (smells like Lady Gaga in the end of 00's). The super-cool haircut was mullet and intentionally messed-up and off-colored hair. And 80s gave birth to such popular cloth items as leggings, headbands, skinny ripped jeans, leather pants, Ray Ban Glasses, open-shoulder shirts, bolero-jackets, leotards, sweatshirts, Dr. Martens...In make up there was different tendencies mixed up: from crazy and motley colours and heavy make-up to something more natural. However we can notice most of this on the Famous & Beautiful girls of 80's:

I must say that this era has slowly issued from 60s with it's swing, hippies and rock'n'roll into something you may call "totall 70s". The "it girls", musicians, celebrities and powers that be having the time of their lives in legendary Manhattan club "Studio 54". 70's was the time when models started to become supermodels like Janice Dickinson and Gia Carangi. In early and mid 70s female facionistas wore Halston. It was a period of disco and glamour. In fact, hair became the symbol of the era in more ways than one, evolving into perhaps the most powerful means of projecting an image or making a statement. For most of the decade, men and women of all ethnicities wore their hair long, natural and above all free. Long before Jennifer Aniston's Rachel cut spawed a million copies, american actress Farrah Fawcett created first must-have celebrity hair-style, and demonstrated it to the world on hit show "Charlie's Angels". Toward the end of the decade the punk movement arose in opposition to the hippie-influenced values of the era. Punks created a deliberately shocking, provocative look that included spiked hairdos dyed bright fluorescent colors, shaved and tattooed scalps, facial piercings and spectacular makeup. Vivienne Westwood & Malcolm Maclaren brought this extravagant and shocking style into fashion.

Barbara Brylska is a native Polish actress who also was featured in numerous films throughout the countries of the Warsaw Pact including the Soviet Union. She is noted especially for her role as Nadya in the 1975 Soviet comedy film Irony of Fate.

Marie Helvin was one of the best known faces of fashion scene. She marryied photographer David Bailey in 1971. And he quickly made her his muse, photographing her for a host of magazine shoots and covers throughout the decade.

Iman is a Somali-American supermodel, actress and entrepreneur. A pioneer in the field of ethnic cosmetics, she is also noted for her charitable work. She is married to David Bowie.

Janice Dickinson is an American model, fashion photographer, actress, author and agent. She has described herself as the first supermodel. One of the most successful models throughout the 1970s and 1980s, she expanded her profession to reality television in 2003 by judging for four cycles on America's Next Top Model. She subsequently opened her own modeling agency in 2005, which was documented as The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency.

Gia Carangi was an American fashion model during the late 1970s and early 1980s. Carangi was considered by some to be the first supermodel. After she became addicted to heroin, Carangi's modeling career rapidly declined. She later became infected with HIV and died at the age of 26. Her death was not widely publicized and few people in the fashion industry knew of it. Carangi is thought to be one of the first famous women to die of AIDS.

Debbie Harry achieved worldwide fame in late 70s, when her band called "Blondie" gained international success with 1978 single "Heart Of Glass". With her platinum blonde locks and distinct look, Debbie quickly became a style icon for punk fans.

Siouxie Sioux is an English singer-songwriter. She is best known as the singer of the rock band Siouxsie and the Banshees. She's considered to be "one of the most influential British singers of the rock era".

Grace Jones is a Jamaican-American singer, model and actress. Jones secured a record deal with Island Records in 1977, which resulted in a string of dance-club hits. In the late 1970s, she adapted the emerging New Wave music style and adopted a severe, androgynous look with square-cut hair and angular, padded clothes. Throughout the 1970s, she also became a muse to Andy Warhol, who photographed her extensively. During this era she regularly went to the New York City nightclub Studio 54.

The "Swinging Sixties" was a great step forward to women's freedom. The athmosphere and sounds of Rock'n'Roll conquered hearts of people from almost all over the world. Dresses and skirts became shorter, costumes - more clinging, hairstyle - voluminous, everything around - more colourful. Freedom of Love, Psychedelic experiences, drugs, music, Woodstock, The Beatles, Elvis, The Rollins Stones..& Andy Warhol made this era so catchy and unlike others.
In the 1960s women were once again moving out of the domestic sphere and into the workplace, pursuing careers as well as an education. As a result, in the early to mid-1960s women reacted against the time-consuming, complex hairstyles of the '50s and opted for more practical short styles (often variations of the 1920s bob), or long, straight hair. There was only one makeup look throughout the 1960s: dark eyes paired with pale lips (or, by the late '60s, no makeup at all).

In the uncertain times following the end of World War II, tradition and conservative values made a big comeback. The glamorous woman at home, able to attend to all domestic chores without a hair out of place, became a popular image. As a result, many women spent an inordinate amount of time living up to the '50s ideal of beauty. The "doe eye," created with shadow on the lids, eyebrow pencil, mascara and heavy eyeliner; along with a pale complexion and intensely colored lips, became fashionable. Women's hair suffered even greater abuse. It was teased, styled, sculpted and sprayed at the salon every week into a helmet of perfectly formed curls, waves and bouffants.

Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, Hollywood starlets continued to set the trends in women's fashion. Longer, more feminine hairstyles became popular again, and women immediately copied Bette Davis' curls, Betty Grable's topknot with ringlets, and Rita Hayworth's gleaming waves. Veronica Lake created a sensation by wearing a lock of hair that covered one eye. The hairstyle that most symbolized the era, however, was parted on the side, with soft curls falling over the shoulder. Also, for the first time, tanned skin (for both men and women) began to be perceived as a symbol of high class — again showing the influence of screen stars on standards of beauty.

Veronica Lake (American film actress and pin-up model. She received both popular and critical acclaim, most notably for her femme fatale roles in film noir with Alan Ladd during the 1940s, and was well-known for her peek-a-boo hairstyle.)

Beauty Through the Decades: 1920's & 30's

In 20's the situation has changed pretty much as the society reacted against the puritanical Victorian standarts of beauty. This era is also called the "Roaring Twendies" as you may know. Woman started wearing popular new short "bobbed", waved or shingled hairstyles which symbolized the growing freedom of women. The impact of cinema was felt for the first time, as women increasingly took their beauty cues from film stars such as Louise Brooks and Clara Bow. The heavy use of makeup also returned to fashion in this era. Generally, white women applied pale powder and cream rouge circles to the cheeks, plucked their eyebrows and penciled in thin arches, and painted their lips very red, emphasizing the cupid's bow of the upper lip.

In the 1920s and 1930s American fashion began to assert itself and soon gained world recognition. Hollywood was instrumental in providing the world with the latest looks for concepts of dressing with feminine allure and glamour. Women demanded the same exciting new fashions and beauty tricks and products as the film icons and stars wore and so costumers and beauty experts became important in their own right.

Lyubov Orlova was the first recognized star of Soviet cinema, famous theatre actress and a gifted singer. She was born to a middle class family in Zvenigorod near Moscow and grew up in Yaroslavl. When she was seven, Fyodor Shalyapin predicted her future as a famous actress.

Each historical period enthroned it's type of beauty, it's own icons, ideals and standarts. And if antique ideal standart was Venus de Milo with such body dimensions as 86-69-93 (33.9-27.2-36.6.) and height 164sm, now ideal woman became taller and slender. No matter this changes has happend i'm pretty sure every type of woman has it's fans. But it would've been so interesting to retrace the beauty timeline of 20th Century as it gave us our modern conception of how beautiful woman may look like. Undoubtedly every decade and period was specified with their own traditions, fashion, make-up and hairstyle tendencies, people lifestyle and of course places..By the way, talking about make up, remember the TV Show "Blush" on MTV? - it's about make up artists trying to become #1 - in one episode there was a mission to recreate the looks of 30s, 50s, 60s, 80's and so on, but it became evident that none of the make-up artists had a clear idea of the image he/she was going to work on. Of course, why should we remember everything when we can just google it?! But the real professional is ready for everything. And better if he can do it without spending some extra-time on searching for "How Gretta Garbo looks like". That's why i've decided to make it clearer for myself..about the most beautiful females, their make-up and hairstyle, their favourite fashion designers, their lives e.t.c., but i've also wanted to share my discoveries with you, my Dear Readers. So let's start our little journey into the past..
The Victorians
The people of Victorian era with their puritanical views preferred natural, restrained beauty and just a little bit of makeup. Middle- and upper-class woman used small amount of cosmetics whereas only prostitutes and actresses covered their faces beyond powders and more audacious makeup. Society at that time really cared about hygiene and health that's why many woman magazines warned against the toxic qualities of lead-based industrial cosmetics. In 1840s women's heads were sleek and demure the hair oiled and smoothed down over the temples with long sausage curls at the side and later with a heavy knot of curls or plaits in back.

I was wondering what am i going trough?! A tough period? A complete closedown of barricades within myself? A change of mind? A hurricane in a tightly closed room? My vision has changed and i've started to see some extra-colours. I was searching for the real me. It was difficult to recognise. I was fighting. I've set a quarantine. I wanted to see nobody around. Guess it's hard to understand, that we grow up so differently, even beeing placed into equal conditions. Everybody should know - there is no equal conditions. It's a metaphor. You've got your best friends, people you can trust, but there is something you cannot share. It's not always about dark secrets, no. To be honest there's not so many dark secrets that i hide, just secrets, a little mystery. But with a flow of time you start to forget: how it's like - to share. And you grow havier with your mind closed. So you start to search for other ways of expressing yourself and clearing your background. The thing is that not everybody can have a frank conversation with themselves. Who am i? What do i want? What i'm dreaming about? What is my background like? What am i to do to be where i want? What should i do to get what i want? What i can sacrifice in the name of my dream? And many other questions you should ask yourself first before starting to move to the outer circle. And there's one thing you better do before getting there - keep your inner circle closed. That's for your mental safety. When i meet people i always know that their face is covered by a vail (or mask - call it as you like) they gently put on every morning to present oneselves to the society justice. We all play games. But with ourselves - we take a rest. Whether we want it or we need it. People always want to seem somebody, but sometimes forget about beeing somebody. When the difference between these two meaning become too wide - the conflict is at it's highest point. And the time is never forgeting to run..no matter how i want to change it. The wounds are healing, they are not bleeding anymore. But scars are left. Memories are transfering from conscience to subconscience. I was scared of myself sometimes. I was sorry for myself sometimes. I was on my way to learn how to love myself right, before i will love anybody else. This will be honest. And growin up..sometimes takes a little longer than teen age...

When i was forming my "female beauty" list i somehow forgot to mention my favourite girl -Gemma Arterton. I really don't understand how it's possible, but she always makes me smile, and when i look at her i feel a surge of possitive emotions. Not that she has "too much style" or super-skinny model appearance, but she has that kind of heartfelt, enchanting smile that makes men fall for her (in my opinion). No finicality, no dissembling -she always looks natural, even when she's chic and sophisticated. Love her for it. And for her acting.

I love extravagancy. For me it's not about fashion, it's about style, about expressing your inner personality. But there's always a thin line between art and lack of taste..and Ke$ha doesn't feel that line. She's an absolutely sweet face and rebel, but should work out more on her outlooks.
